Reference target is not immediately clear, I agree, but I think it is explicit: it designates a _target_ for _references_ to the host element. I could imagine a suite of similarly-named attributes (`attributeTarget`, etc.) > Here, what we are delegating is the ID reference and it's a static/declarative relationship so perhaps there is some distinction we can make in that regard.
