gzip: encoding and decoding

Hi All,
 
I tried to find the examples which gzips the request or gunzips the
response. But I was only able to find out that I need to register stream
converters on my streams.
 
But is there a tutorial or guide which would help me gzip the request
and gunzip the response? If yes please point me to the ___location or if
not, then please let me know the best approach to solve the problem.
